What is Your Why?

For many the question of “Why have you left the Catholic Church” might have a clear and obvious answer. For others, the answer could be less simple. It could be something that “just happened” over time without a clear and intentional decision. It might reflect a negative experience with Catholicism or a difference in belief or even a positive experience somewhere else.
For some, the question might need to be different. “Why aren’t you Catholic” or “Why have you never considered being Catholic?” In other words, you might be someone who was never Catholic to begin with.
No matter what your why is, I want to listen and talk with you.
Our culture is enmeshed in animosity and division. Jesus wants something different from and for us. He wants us to be a community of love (cf. John 13:34). He prays that we have unity (cf. John 17:20-23). His apostle appeals to the Christians of Corinth, “by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment” (1 Cor 1:10).
As a pastor, I hope that by listening to your why, I might better understand what causes division in the flock. I want to become a better servant of the Good Shepherd. As a fellow disciple of Christ, I hope our dialogue can help us learn how to bridge the gap.
Use the message box here to set up a meeting or give me a call at the office. If you prefer to share your why through this message box, I understand and welcome it, though I would benefit more from a conversation with you. Thank you for sharing your why with me!
“The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).
